Get your ABBA on! Last month Mrs. Petrarca announced that Barberton High School will be putting on Mamma Mia for the 2023 spring musical. Mamma Mia follows the story of Sophie who dreams of a perfect wedding — one which includes her father giving her away. The problem? Sophie doesn’t know who he is. Her mother Donna, the former lead singer of the 1970s pop group Donna and the Dynamos, refuses to talk about the past, so Sophie decides to take matters into her own hands. Sneaking a peek in her mother’s old diaries, she discovers three possible fathers: Sam, Bill, and Harry. She secretly invites all three to the wedding, convinced that she’ll know her father when she sees him. But when all three turn up, it may not be as clear as she thought! The story is told with all the classic ABBA songs including “Dancing Queen”, “Super Trooper”, and “Gimmie! Gimmie! Gimmie!”.
When asked why she picked Mamma Mia for the 2023 spring show, BHS Choir Director, Mrs. Petrarca responded, “There’s tons of dancing, familiar fun music, a different unique set, and I happen to be a big fan of ABBA! It’s for a large cast too, so I can include many students.”
Auditions for Mamma Mia will be held Wednesday, November 29th, and Thursday, November 30th. Any and all are welcome to audition. Audition packets will be outside the choir room. Please contact Mrs. Petrarca if you would like to work on the stage crew.
