Academic Challenge is one of Barberton High School’s many clubs. In Academic Challenge, they answer jeopardy-style questions. Most meetings are on Mondays in Mrs. Ambrosic’s room (209). In Academic Challenge, they study and or learn about subjects like geography, science, literature, current events, and pop culture. Mrs. Ambrosic’s tip for studying for Academic Challenge is to “study topics that interest you,”
Barberton has quizzed against other schools in Summit County. Recently our Academic Challenge team competed at Norton and went against four different schools, out of the four they beat three of them. It was said that the team felt confident at the tournament. Student Lucas Tallant is the captain of the club, he leads the team and signs off on points during these competitions.
The victory at Norton placed our Academic Challenge team in the silver division, for the past two years they were in the bronze division. Mrs. Ambrosic is very proud of the team, she has said that “They are dedicated to getting better.” and “Have really improved in the last two years.” Their latest competition will be at Our Lady Of The Elms on November 21st, and also on January 14th Barberton’s competition against Rootstown High School and Sandusky High School will be televised on WEWS, ABC at 11:30 AM.
Academic Challenge is still accepting members, everyone is free to join, and there are no requirements for joining. Academic Challenge can help you become a better student, Student Shae Ison says, “I think it’s fun. I learn a lot from it”
