School record tied in Lady Magics Basketball

Lady Magics took on a win in their Suburban League matchup against Theodore Roosevelt. It was Kya Witwer who led the team tying a school record with seven three-pointers. This win gives the Lady Magics a record of 1-3 in their League matchup.

Currently, the Lady Magics hold an overall 3-4 win in their non-conference League. The team currently stands 8th in their Suburban League standings and 505 in the Ohio rankings which were moved up by 10. Currently sitting at 137 in the Ohio Division 1 category as of Dec 13, 2022.

The girls are definitely working this season, both the JV and varsity teams! Their latest matchup was against Highland, played at home and unfortunately, both JV and Varsity fell short with a loss. Highland proved to be a tough team but the Lady Magics played hard with some stand-out scoring from Kya Witwer, Haley Lorenzo, and Maia Taylor hitting a three-pointer with an exceptional hassle up and down the court for rebounds. Elise Eberhart also shot well on the line helping the Lady Magics stay in the game for a tough matchup.

The boy’s basketball unfortunately has started out with a rough season with a 0-3 overall standing and 0-2 in their conference League. The boy’s varsity team had a close game against Highland on Tuesday the 13th coming out with a loss of 31 to 39 with Highland winning. Senior Ben Huth was named player of the game against Highland while Mike Jones was selected as player of the game against Cuyahoga Heights with 24 total rebounds. Mike also leads with 13 points per game for Barberton.

The boy’s basketball team is currently 8th in their Suburban League standings. The boys average about 18 points per game and about 21 defensive rebounds. There was a 4-game matchup on Friday 12/16 with Barberton traveling to Revere in their Suburban League game at 8 pm for Varsity losing 77-51.

A recap of Barberton vs Cuyahoga Falls Mike Jones led with 13 points along with Harper and Riddle scoring points for the Magic’s. Currently, the boy’s basketball team is averaging around 24 total three-pointers matching up with around 24 rebounds as well.

Both the boy’s and girls’ basketball teams are working hard this season for the wins and I can definitely say they have lots of potential! Even though it was a little rough in the beginning but you couldn’t deny our basketball teams here at BHS were excited to kick off the season! Go Magics!
